With no prior reviews, I took a chance on this one. Even though the plastic feels a little light, design and fit are pretty good, and it has worked reliably. The pivoting head is very versatile. In our white 5'x7' bathroom, casting the beam upwards from halfway up the wall illuminates it just enough so you don't need to be blinded by the room light in the middle of the night. The unit itself slides in and out of the mounting bracket so, yes, it does work as a flashlight. The light sensor works well to prevent redundant activation when it's bright. But even though the sensor looks like a fish eye, it only detects motion directly in front of (not off to the side) so you'll want to check placement before mounting. It does turn itself off after about 20 secs if it does not detect sufficient motion. This is a minor inconvenience in the bathroom. I've had the unit for over a month and the 3 alkaline AAA's (not included) are still going strong. I would have preferred a couple more LEDs for additional brightness.
