I purchased one of these, with lighting, to decorate my husband's side of the bathroom with a barbershop theme. He uses it as a lamp to fill in some of the shadows while he is shaving. I got the idea from his shaving guide. Shave With a Straight Razor - A Guide for Beginners This is a high quality item, manufactured in the USA. The wiring is top notch. The motor, which turns the pole, is designed to last for decades. We fastened it to the wall, and, put an in-line switch on it so we could turn it on and off when wanted. You can permanently wire this into an electrical supply (it comes pre-wired for a hard installation), but, we just plug it into the wall socket with the in-line cord. The pole, as it revolves, makes a fair amount of noise. (My husband claims he can't hear me telling him that he has to surrender the bathroom). We turn it on as we warm towels in the towel cabinet, and the noise of the turning pole reminds us that we have towels warming. This "two light" version also illuminates the barber pole while it's turning. You can get these working barber poles with or without lights (globe on top and a light for the turning barber stripes) The globe is really only for decoration, but, we were able to convert it to an excellent light source for my bathroom. The globe that comes with the pole will only take about a 40 watt appliance bulb. The globe that comes with the pole is fairly small (only about 4 1/2 inches in diameter). However, I ordered an antique reproduction canteen globe from Marvy. The canteen globe is about 10 inches in diameter. You can use up to a 150 watt bulb. We use a daylight fluorescent bulb. The resulting light from the reproduction canteen globe, on top of the barber pole, provides a great deal of light for our mirrored vanity. Unfortunately, the canteen globe is not available on Amazon. You have to order it directly from Marvy. The canteen globe has the wording on it: "BARBER SHOP - Hair cutting - Shaves - Hot Bath.". this is my William Marvy Model 405 Barber Pole reviews
