I bought this for midnight feedings after my daughter was born, and I am so happy I selected this one! It provides the perfect amount of light so that I can sleepily find my way around the house, without it keeping anyone awake. We use it in the living/family room and it goes with our decor beautifully. Not childish or "cutesy" at all. It looks like it may have the potential to get hot, but I assure you it doesn't. I leave it on all night and all day (when I forget), and it is not hot to the touch. The shade is metal on the outside and a hard plastic inside facing the bulb.
