Mobi Tykelight Wallmate Reviews

Night lights are probably one of those subjective product to write a review for because of the wide range of preferences, finicky kids and their preferences, etc. For mine which was ordered during the Christmas rush, it arrived and was immediately placed into service so this is about 2 weeks of nightly experience so far. As background information, we have used the portable/rechargeable Mobi Tykelight which had to be replaced as the built-in battery no longer holds charge. Right off the bat, the Wallmate should not be considered an alternative to the original Tykelight. The Walmate is a wall night light and is not mobile which should be self evident. The good: I believe it is based on LED technology (I did not take it apart to confirm) so it is cool to touch when lit and I expect low energy consumption. It has multiple colors! This is by far the best feature with finicky kids that might want green one night and blue another night. I hope the Mobi marketing department doesn't read this but we are happy to not have to purchase multiple units since this is the one light that does them all. Especially since there is a mode that will rotate through the entire spectrum and recycle all of the colors (and the combo colors when they are in transition which themselves are fascinating as well). It has a built-in light sensor so it turns itself off automatically when there is enough ambient light. The dings: First the non-subjective then the subjective. There is no way to switch it off. This is almost a nitpick since eventually it will turn itself off given the proper condition. The subjective ding is that in some situations it is almost too bright. In the years of having young children, we have cycled through dozens of night lights and and the only thing constant is that the brightness always varies and some too dark while others too bright. This is no exception and since it could be too bright some times it would have been nice to be able to manually turn it off. With out a switch, we just simply have to unplug it. The rub is that I am very comfortable with my children push the button to change colors, I cannot allow them to plug and unplug an AC appliance. Hence the wish that there is one more function the push button would serve which is to turn it off. Summary: Pro's Multiple Colors in one light Bright and energy efficient Automatic on/off matching ambient light conditions Con's (Merely a nitpick) No off switch And to be fair, most other automated lights do not have switches, either. It's just that it would be nice. And of course the ability to adjust brightness would also be nice to have except I'm sure the increase in price may not warrant lost in sales due to higher pricing. However, this is a unit that is sold at a higher premium. Would I buy another one? Definitely.. this is my Mobi Tykelight Wallmate reviews
